Southport Ladies Group ‘went Indian’ last week with a fully themed fun Indian night!

The 35 ladies who attended booked out the entire restaurant room at flourishing local restaurant, Taj Mahal.

The ladies group, who have a monthly themed meal, organised by Claire Kelly, provide social events out in Southport, for women only, whilst raising a little for charity and sampling local restaurants and venues.

The Taj Mahal, Bath Street, Southport, is owned and ran by a lovely, local Indian family - husband and wife - Abu and Happy Monzu, together with their son and daughter Adeeva & Adnan, (pictured below at Taj Mahal’s own bar.) The restaurant is expertly managed by close family friend, Iqqi. Their successful business has been running for almost twenty years now and has also become a popular take away in the area.

The family’s nephew, Misbha, even got involved in the night and wore a traditional man’s Indian costume to welcome the ladies. He also chose the winner of ‘the best dressed lady competition’ and awarded her a bottle of wine, donated from the restaurant.

The ladies were served an amazing mezze of Indian dishes including , onion bahjis, samosas, seekh kebabs, poppadoms with mixed dips, chicken bhuna, vegetable curry, lamb dupiaza, naan bread and rainbow rice.

As well as the meal on a beautifully dressed long table, there was Indian music and a Chakra Meditation, lead by Sharon Stock from Yoga and Holistic Services. Claire then was the quiz master and tested the ladies with an Indian general knowledge quiz!

Traditional Indian sweet tasting was hosted next by Baljit Kaur who owns the Southport Indian grocery shop, Bain’s Mini Mart, on London street.

Another game that took place was - ‘guess the name of the Indian Doll’. To top it off the ladies had a raffle in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness and raised £100 towards their total.

The next venture for Southport Ladies Group is a bingo night also in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness. If you are interested in joining the group go to
